The change of the year made me think a lot about the last months and how my life has changed in the last year. I had some pretty bis life changes, lots of ups and downs and I would say that 2019 was definitely the year that challenged me the most so far. I had some big health issues and could see who of my friends and family member want the best for me and which ones are just toxic people. I struggeled with all the comments on my life and that my goals would be unreachable until I decide to make a cut an do some big changes. A lot has happened and I would like to update you today.
I quit my fulltime job AND moved abroad
After being in a long-distance relationship for 1,5 years and constantly having a big ocean and 12.000 kilometers between us, I decided to move to the other side of the world to live with my boyfriend. This is one of the biggest life changing moments of my life ´cause I didn´t only choose to live in a country with a different culture but also one with a language that I don´t speak.
The progress of moving abroad wasn´t easy at all and took so much of my time in the last month. I had to quit my first fulltime job that I worked in for 3 years and I´m still missing my fabulous colleagues that I had – you guys where amazing!
I moved out of the apartment that I lived in even longer and packed all my belongings in little boxes – most of them in a dark storage room. After selling my car that I loved insanely even though it was already super old – but hey we were best buddies for almost 12 years – I said goodbye to all my loved ones and boarded the plane.
Actually it was two planes and incredibly long flight until I finally arrived on my destination. My new home: in between a hug from my babe.
So my new home is in Santiago de Chile a huge city comparing to my hometown hannover which has a population over 5,6 million – crazy. I´m now here f0r almost 3 months and my day to day routine has changed to much from the one at home. Instead of sitting in a dark office all day I spend most of my time around the city enjoying the summer. I had intense spanish classes for a couple of weeks and I´m still amazed how quickly you can actually learn to speak in a new language. I mean my spanish is obviously not fantastic at all, but at least it gets better every day. Looking at the progress that I made in the last weeks is really refreshing and it´s a good feeling to learn something new.
I won the NaNoWriMo
For those of you who don´t the National Novel Writing Month I give you a quick explanation. It´s an annual writing project which always takes place in november. The participants try to write a hole book or a 50.000-word manuscript between the 1. of november and the 30. of november. The contest is mainly created for self-motivation, but the daily word count is actually feeling like a lot if you are not used of daily writing. I haven´t written for over a year or maybe even longer and even though I did the NaNoWriMo three years ago it was the first time that I actually participated actively and tracked my word count every day. I´m so proud that I actually reached the goal a few days early and wrote every single day a bit on my manuscript. Some days were better ones and I wrote up to 19 pages on other I wrote just a paragraph – but the contest really motivated me and I never wrote so much in just a month before. At the moment I take a little break from my manuscript to go it over in a few weeks again. I feel like after an intense writing session it´s always good to let some time pass before you reread the manuscript and start editing. I hope next year I will have the time again to concentrate fully on the contest again. If you are writing yourself I can really recommend it. It´s lots of fun and I met some really nice authors in the time.
My own book – Escape the Ordinary
And last but not least for those of you who don´t know yet, I published my debut novel a couple of month ago. It still feils weird when people actually call me an author or ask me questions about what I´m working on write now, but it´s such a good feeling. One of my life dreams has come true and I´m so thankful and happy when I read a new review on amazon or see that someone posts a picture with the book. So to all my readers, you are incredible and I hope you will like the next book as much as you loved my debut novel!
If you want to check it out you can get my book on amazon as a E-Book or paperback version: Escape the Ordinary – Tiziana Olbrich
So now that the new year just has started I can´t wait to see what´s going to happen next. There are some pretty big projects I´m planning at the moment that I´m so excited about. I hope the year goes the way I planned it and that there won´t be too many unexpected surprises coming along. What where your biggest life changes in the last month? Did you start a new hobby aswell like me? Oh and please tell me what you think about goal setting and new years resolutions. I wrote a blogpost about it the other day and did a pretty detailed list myself. I´m so ready for the new year and can´t wait to see which of my goals I will actually reach and how quickly. Wish you all the best 🙂
